Hayden Panettiere, the acclaimed actress known for her roles in Heroes, Nashville and the Scream franchise, has died at the age of 36.
Panettiere died on August 16, 2026, in Greenville, South Carolina, her representative confirmed. Her father, Skip Panettiere, described her as “an incredible light and a force of nature” who brought love and joy to those who knew her and to millions who watched her onscreen.
According to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, emergency responders were called to a residence on August 16 and found Panettiere unresponsive and in cardiac arrest. Advanced cardiac life-support measures were attempted, but she was pronounced dead at approximately 2:32 p.m.

The official cause and manner of Hayden Panettiere’s death remain pending further investigation and additional studies. An autopsy was completed, and authorities reported that no signs of trauma were found that would have contributed to her death.
